"The design of the Persian rug in this picture is something we come to expect from the city of Isfahan. We are talking about the applied medallion design that uses colors like ivory and navy and for the outlines red, blue and ivory. Peony and lotus flowers are colored in blue, brown and ivory and the contours are using intense navy and brown. Isfahan Rugs
Isfahan has long been one of the most important manufacturing centers for Persian rugs. The rugs here are usually designed using an ivory background and the ornaments are symmetrical and balanced. We find in the central part of the rug a medallion that is surrounded by floral motifs and palmetto leaves.
