"The elegant Mashad rug originates in one the largest and greatest carpet producing cities in Eastern Iran. The classic Mashad carpet often features elegant medallion-and-corner designs decorated with lush curvilinear vinescrolls set over a sumptuous red field. As an important religious and cultural center, medallion-and-corner designs featured on the Mashad rug draw inspiration from the rosettes and ornate cornice pieces used to decorate the Koran. The traditional Mashad carpet features many classical Persian designs executed with elegant precision on looms in the city’s many prestigious workshops."

Mashad Rugs
Mashad is the capital of Khorasan in northeastern Iran. The city is known for hosting the mausoleum of the eighth Imam of Shia. Usually this region produces large rugs and their quality is very good. They are made mostly of wool and the floral image of the rug is usually crowded with a medallion in the center.
